June 15, 2022 at 7:15PM We have decided that Schwartz, and a probable mate, are Red squirrels which are demonstrably smaller than a Gray squirrel but have aggressive attitudes that can scare off a Gray if the want to. First year that we’ve seen them. In Kelowna all their squirrels are Black. Our first sighting of red squirrels took place this summer. They were so cute with their unique routine that we named them. I don’t know where they nest, but they sit atop the old fence post and when the coast is clear, they go to ground and dash to the bird feeder, collect food dropped from the feeder and then dash back to the post, climb to the top in a flash and hang out there. They wash, rinse and repeat a handful of times before taking a break. They do this so often that they’ve worn a path in the grass between the fence post and the bird feeder.
